These schools are drawn from the sub regions of Ankole (Nkore), Kigezi, Tooro, Bunyoro and Rwenzori.
Districts and municipalities covered are: Buhweju, Bundibugyo, Bunyangabu, Bushenyi, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality, Fort Portal City, Hoima, Hoima City, Ibanda, Ibanda Municipality, Isingiro, Kabale municipality, Kabale, Kabarole, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kamwenge, and Kanungu.
Other districts and municipalities include: Kasese Municipality, Kasese, Kazo, Kibaale, Kiruhura, Kiryandongo, Kitagwenda, Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Rukungiri Municipality, Mbarara, Mbarara City, Mitooma, Ntungamo, Rubanda Rubirizi, Rukiga, Masindi Municipality, Rukungiri, Rwampara, Sheema Municipality, and Sheema District.
The basis for the rankings of 300 Best Performing Schools in Western Uganda in PLE 2025 (Ankole, Kigezi, Tooro & Bunyoro) is the number of first grades as a percentage of the entire class. Schools with 100 per cent first grades rank atop others.
The lower the rate (the percentage), the lower the ranking; and the higher the percentage, the higher the ranking.
