From Ankole to Buganda, See How Many People Turned Up to Vote Per Region (voter turnout in Uganda 2026 elections per region)

Uganda’s 2026 presidential election saw varying voter turnout across regions, with Ankole leading the pack at 73 per cent. Voter turnout in Uganda has been been a key concern over several elections. 

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni Tibubuhaburwa won with a little over 71 per cent of all the votes cast.

Museveni’s strongholds generally had a higher voter turnout while in the strongholds of his challengers, mainly Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the turnout was a bit lower.

Here’s a breakdown of the voter turnout per region:

  • – Ankole: 73 per cent or 1,343,400 voters (top turnout)
  • – Karamoja: 70 per cent or 285,049 voters
  • – Sebei: 69 per cent or 130,822 voters
  • – Kigezi: 65 per cent or 574,135 voters
  • – Teso: 63 per cent or 688,907 voters
  • – Tooro: 63 per cent or 585,871 voters
  • – Madi: 60 per cent or 105,049 voters
  • – Bukedi: 59 per cent or 682,271 voters
  • – Rwenzori: 58 per cent or 351,924 voters
  • – Bugisu: 56 per cent or 466,071 voters
  • – Bunyoro: 55 per cent or 667,590 voters
  • – Lango: 54 per cent or 660,291 voters
  • – West Nile: 51 per cent or 610,716 voters
  • – Busoga: 46 per cent or 983,527 voters
  • – Acholi: 45 per cent or 386,073 voters
  • – Buganda: 45 per cent or 2,460,910 voters (lowest turnout)

Overall turnout was 52.5 per cent, with President Museveni winning 71.65 per cent of the vote. His victory has since been challenged, as reported Here.
