Shock in Ugandan Prison as Man – Who Had Been Remanded for Killing Mother – Kills Convicted Defiler

Masindi Prison

A convicted prisoner in a Ugandan prison has been killed by a colleague on remand in the same government correctional facility.

Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) described the incident as a case of inmate to inmate violence.

The incident happened at Masindi Government Prison on Sunday, August 03, 2025.

Remanded prisoner Anatoli Irumba inflicted fatal injuries on Moses Tuhame.

Tuhame had been convicted of aggravated def!lement while Irumba was on remand for murder.

“An unfortunate incident of inmate-to-inmate violence at Masindi Government Prison resulted in the death of convicted prisoner No. MDI/829/2023, Moses Tuhame, charged with aggravated defilement,” confirmed Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja.

“He succumbed to injuries inflicted by remand prisoner No. R-534/25, Anatoli Irumba, charged with the murder of his mother.”

Baine noted that the incident occurred at around 0400hrs in the TB isolation ward, where both inmates were staying.

The prisons spokesperson further noted that following the attack, the victim was rushed to Masindi Hospital but passed on a few hours later.

“Police has already taken over the matter, and the body of the deceased will be handed over to relatives after a postmortem examination,” he added.

“The Uganda Prisons Service extends deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. May the soul of Moses Tuhame rest in eternal peace.”

Months ago, a remanded prisoner died after days in prison, sparking anger in his village. The villagers killed a police officer who had been deployed to guard the deceased ex-prisoner’s funeral. (See Details Here and There).
