Police are hunting Ugandan socialite Don Chris (real name Christian Asiimwe).
Known for his extravagance and splashing money on music shows, Don Chris runs Skypins Tours and Travels.
Don Chris’ Skypins Tours and Travel Company is said to have run adverts on mainstream and social media telling Ugandans about jobs abroad.
The adverts compelled hundreds of desperate Ugandans to visit Skypins Tours and Travel Company based at Haruna Mall in Ntinda seeking opportunities.
Months later, it emerged that these Ugandans had been fleeced of their money, and that no such jobs existed abroad.
Reports indicate that the victims of Don Chris and his Skypins Tours and Travels paid between Shs3.5m and Shs10m.
Up to Shs500m was paid by the victims, reports also showed.
“The victims were promised to travel on loan after depositing half of the full payment (s) according to different contracts for different jobs in different countries like Canada, United Kingdom, Qatar, Dubai, Luxembourg among others,” revealed Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson Patrick Onyango.
“Most victims who paid were issued with company receipts and would be promised to travel in a period of two to six months, but unfortunately, the victims did not travel to the countries as had earlier agreed.”
Police is said to have interviewed up to 85 victims and recorded their statements. Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara is interested in the matter, The Pearl Times has learnt.
It is said that the victims petitioned Minister Barugahara to intervene in the matter and compel Don Chris and Skypins Tours and Travel Company to cough their money or get them jobs abroad.
In turn, Minister Barugahara referred the matter to the KMP CID commander.
On June 17, 2025, a general inquiry file was opened and investigations commenced, The Pearl Times has learnt.
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that Skypins Tours and Travel Company has since changed its location from Ntinda’s Haruna Mall to Katende along Entebbe Road.
The victims also accuse Don Chris of threatening them whenever they demanded a refund of their monies.
It is said that the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has never authorized SkyPins Tours and Travel Company to operate as a labour export company.
