Gen Moses Ali Will Retire in 2036 – Minister Balaam Barugahara

Minister Balaam Barugahara praises Gen Moses Ali

Gen Moses Ali Will Retire in 2036 – Minister Balaam Barugahara

Minister Balaam Barugahara welcoming Gen Moses Ali. Barugahara says the 86 yo deputy prime minister will reture in 2036.

Uganda’s second deputy prime minister Gen Moses Ali is in the news after a video him struggling as he asked voters to reelect him appeared online. But now, cabinet colleague Minister Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, who is in charge of youth and children’s affairs, says Gen Moses Ali will retire in 2036.

See, Gen Moses Ali is aged 86 and he appears to struggle to speak while addressing voters. He also has trouble standing for many minutes. Often, he addresses his voters while seated.

He has been in government for many years, serving in the current regime led by President Yoweri Museveni and in the past government before it.

Gen Moses Ali has spent a significant part of his life in government service. But in a country where some leaders do not like to be reminded of an honorable retirement, he is still seeking reelection as a member of parliament (MP).

Currently, Moses Ali is the MP for Adjumani West, and he comfortably beat his opponents in the 2021 parliamentary election.

A member of Museveni’s ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Gen Moses Ali is hoping to do that again (beat his opponents) next year when Uganda goes to the polls – parliamentary, presidential, local government and special interest groups election.

Minister Balaam Barugahara has now praised Gen Moses Ali for his contribution to West Nile sub-region and Uganda, especially regarding peace and development efforts.

“May God’s blessings be upon you, Rt. Hon. Gen. Moses Ali, Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament,” noted Minister Barugahara.

“Your pivotal role in negotiating peace with the NRM government, which brought an end to the prolonged conflict in West Nile, is truly appreciated. By choosing dialogue and peace over war and conflict, you’ve paved the way for economic growth and social development in the region.”

On the urgency for Gen Moses Ali to retire and stop struggling with voters given his frail health and advanced age, Minister Balaam Barugahara said the elderly deputy prime minister should be given ten more years as MP after 2026.

“Give him the desired 2 terms he will retire in 2036,” wrote Minister Barugahara.

That year, Moses Ali will be 96 in 2036.

It should be remembered that previously, Gen Moses Ali collapsed in Parliament, appeared weak, frail and struggling with a strange disease in public. Ugandans have asked answers on Gen Moses Ali’s health condition and have been telling President Museveni to fire the old man and let him retire. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
