MP Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari and his camp were left in shock after residents of Bunusya Ward in Mbarara City North Division rejected hand hoes sent by the legislator.Â
The distribution was scheduled for Saturday, April 05, 2025 afternoon. But locals, some of whom said voted him in 2021, said that Rukaari had clearly promised them that he would help connect electricity to their area.

But they now say that less than a year to the end of his five-year-term, Rukaari was yet to lobby for electricity connections to their area.
Others claimed that he had brought hand hoes to try and convince them to reelect him. The swore not to vote him if he does not help their area get electricity connections.
They even vowed to start campaigning for Rukaari’s opponents with the view of ejecting the wealthy politician from Parliament.
A very respectable and wealthy businessman, Rukaari is also the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League.
To try to woo voters, Ugandans go as far as making several donations. One former MP from western Uganda even donated sauce pans for funerals as a way of wooing voters, as reported Here.
Meanwhile, in Mbarara City, the mayoral race is beginning to become heated after incumbent mayor Robert Kakyebezi told Gaffa Mwabtekamwa that voters will not replace a cow with a dog, adding that his opponent was just a Mutembeyi politician who cannot be trusted. (See Details Here and There).
Elsewhere, five presenters have resigned from NBS TV to contest for MP seats. (Watch Video Here).
