The General Court Martial in Makindye Kampala has sentenced Ugandan lawyer Eron Kiiza, a member of the legal team for opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and his aide Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya, to nine months in prison for contempt of court.
Eron Kiiza will spend the next nine months in Kitalya Prison after the Freeman Mugabe court martial convicted him of contempt of court.
Earlier, UPDF officers at the Makindye General Court Martial assaulted and arrested Kiiza who had come to join the Besigye legal team, now fully led by Kenyan lawyer Martha Karua, who the Law Council finally granted a temporary practicing certificate after weeks of waiting. (See Details Here).
“We have been subjected to very difficult conditions back and forth to the extent that we’re so exhausted and not capable of representing our clients properly. We have also witnessed before your eyes the assault of one of our team members [lawyer Eron Kiiza],” said Karua.
To which the Court Martial ruled that while Karua and other Besigye lawyers were complaining about the assault, they were yet to talk about Kiiza’s alleged misconduct.

Later, the trial of Besigye and Lutale was adjourned to January 13, 2025.
It should be remembered that Eron Kiiza had fearlessly ‘banged tables’ in the Museveni military court, challenging the generals sitting on the military tribunal. (See details Here).
