MK Movement is planning their boss first son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s mega countrywide tour to counter Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s criticism of the general’s presidential ambition after the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader declared Museveni’s son unfit to rule Uganda.
Bobi Wine is currently doing a countrywide tour, opening offices and encouraging people to vote him in the next election. His tour, which can easily be mistaken for early campaigning ahead of 2026 general elections, has so far remained largely uninterrupted.
It is rare for President Museveni’s state to let opposition politicians hold rallies.
On August 30, Bobi Wine was in Kasese. NUP supporters thronged Kasese streets to welcome Bobi Wine for a mobilization meeting.
The convoy which started from Kigoro Trading Center in Kasese Municipality with NUP supporters on motorcycles, vehicles and foot left their businesses to have a glimpse of Bobi Wine who arrived aboard an open roof vehicle.
Before moving to Bambucha Gardens for a meeting, the convoy and a crowd of NUP supporters drove through Kasese Town to Alexander Street where Bobi Wine launched the party offices.
As the convoy moved in town, police Vehicles also patrolled the major streets and roads of Kasese Town to handle any acts of lawlessness.
Addressing hundreds of his supporters at Bambucha Gardens in Kasese Town, Bobi wine condoled with families of those who lost their beloved ones in the recent ADF attack on Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Secondary School.
It should be remembered that there were fights over the ownership of the school founded by a Canadian before the ADF attack as different groups attempted to take over the institution. (See Details Here).
At the rally, Brian Basisa, the NUP chairperson for Kasese District, asked supporters to unite and vote all party candidates on different posts. Basisa claimed that they lost in 2021 elections because they only supported and voted for Bobi Wine, leaving other party flag bearers.
Meanwhile, Team MK has announced preparations for the visit of first son Gen Kainerugaba who is expected in Kasese in October 2023 as part of a nationwide tour expected to counter Bobi Wine.
According to Daphine Walemba, the Kasese MK Movement Coordinator, the visit is meant to show their support to Kainerugaba.
Bobi Wine has, among other things, urged voters to reject Muhoozi, saying Uganda is not a monarchy. This is not the first time Bobi Wine and other opposition are telling Ugandans not to allow scenario where Muhoozi would succeed his father who has ruled Uganda for nearly four decades.
Museveni has previously been told that Uganda is not his property to be inherited by his son Muhoozi, and that that his son can only inherit Museveni’s cows. (See Details Here).
But Muhoozi seems to have his father’s blessing to run for president and succeed the old man. Muhoozi has also won the endorsement of several MPs who have confessed they believe in his vision for Uganda. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
